For me the year 2017 started with a lot of time to read some of the books which were laying around since a little while. Since I´m a child I love to read and get to know other perspectives of life. Mostly I read romance novels, historical novels and biographies from people who did something important for the world. When I started to workout on a regular base especially when I picked up running again (here you can read my story) reading wasn’t really important for me anymore because now I had something else to relax me and calm me down.
Ever since I injured my knee over 6 months ago I started to read more again and back in New Jersey I even had a library membership which I used a lot and I enjoyed to have it on hand. In January I only had the time to read 3 books till the end and some others I started but I will share them with you when I’m done. Here is my Books in January review.
Jessica Topper – Ich bin verliebt, ich darf das! (dictatorship of the dress)
Publishing company: blanvalet
Page count: 368
Price: 9,30 €
Back cover: As the dress-bearer for her mother’s wedding, comic book artist Laney Hudson has a lot more baggage than the bulky garment bag she’s lugging from New York to Hawaii. Laney is determined to prove she’s capable of doing something right, but running chores for her mom’s fairytale nuptials is proving to be a painfully constant reminder of her own lost love.
So when she’s mistaken for the bride and bumped up to first class, Laney figures some stress-free luxury is worth a harmless white lie. Until the flight crew thinks that the man sitting next to her is Laney’s groom, and her little fib turns into a hot mess.
Recommendation: This story was less than I expected. The story itself is told in alternating povs and at some points it was enjoyable, sometimes there were depth factors but I had moments I skipped pages to finish the book faster.
I myself enjoyed the changed point of views but the author had some big jumps in between and some hints but all over it just confused me more than it really told me. It was too much going on and not enough about the people itself.
Overall this was an okay book, due to me getting that book for Christmas I can´t say much about the price but I myself would not buy it.
Cassey Ho – Hot Body Pilates
Publishing company: riva
Page count: 256
Price: 19,99 €
Back cover: Cassey Ho, internationally renowned fitness instructor, is known for her irresistibly popular workout videos which have been shared millions of times online. She runs the #1 women’s fitness channel on YouTube, Blogilates. Her unique format, POP Pilates is a fusion of ab-chiseling, butt lifting, total body sculpting exercises that are performed using only your bodyweight. Cassey’s personality is bubbly, inspiring, and infecious. But don’t let the smile fool you – her workouts will leave you sweating and sore for days. By following Ho’s super effective workout plans and clean-eating recipes, you will transform your body towards a stronger, sleeker, and happier version of you.
Recommendation: I already knew Cassey from her YouTube channel and I really like her personality and workouts but always looking online to do the workouts wasn´t what I really wanted because I travel quiet a bit and don´t always have internet. This is why I really loved to get to know that she is doing her own book.
The book did not disappoint me at all. It comes with meal plans and recipes, I already tried some of them and they are delicious. The book itself is broken into seasons to boot. The workout routines are detailed into seasons as well and they target all muscle groups.
The book is laid out beautifully and colorfully. I really liked that the photographs were taken in the settings of that season.
Veronika Pachala – Gesund kochen ist Liebe (this book is only in German language)
Publishing company: ZS Verlag
Page count: 144
Price: 18,99 €
Back cover: Good, healthy meals are food for the body, sole and mind – and if you start to eat healthy it is hard to live your day to day life without the carbs, fats and sugar. Good ingredients are very important for Veronika Pachala: In the book she shows that with 80 recipes, how to eat healthy without missing out on something. Breakfast, main courses, snacks, desserts and drinks without using milk products, refined sugar and wheat and they are mainly vegan, sometimes vegetarian and rarely with fish and meat.
Recommendation: To be honest I never followed Veronika’s Blog but I saw the book in the store and really like what I saw and I took it home with me. Besides the awesome pictures I was hooked with the recipes, they sounded super yummy and after I tried them I was in love.
Until today I only finished 3 books in 2017 but my goal for this year is to finish between 25-30 books. When I went home to visit my mom after the holidays I went “shopping” into her library, yes my mom has a library in her house. I brought 5 books home with me and I can´t wait to share them with you but before that I need to finish the other books. We will see what the February review will bring.
Are you reading a lot too? Maybe some of you have some book tips for me! I´m always curious to know what you guys read so let me know in the comments.
