this year the prater, a theme park, celebrates his 250th birthday and to this special occasion they invited the Coca Cola truck and Santa Clause for a visit. The big event took place on the 17th December and I, the biggest Christmas fan ever, had to attend that event.
First let me give you some details because the prater is a really important historical landmark which you need to visit during a Vienna trip. The park was opened to the public in 1766 by King Joseph the II. Before that the whole area was the hunting territory for the king. Right from the beginning it attracted café, restaurant and bakery owners to open shops as well as the first entertainment rides.
In 1897 one of the biggest symbol for Vienna was opened – the Ferris wheel. Which was always a sign for the proud Austrians. This Ferris wheel is special because it has wagons and not little 2 people seats, it feels more like a shed where you can move around and look out all the windows and take great pictures. It even has an appearance in the James Bond movie “the living daylight”.
If you are afraid of the heights you can always take a look at it from the bottom and take pictures from that angle or visit the shop which offers great souvenirs from Vienna and especially the Ferris wheel. Who ever plans something really special in Vienna has the chance to get in contact with the owners of the wheel and make a reservation of one of the wagons and let them help you with your special occasion – romantic dinners, special presentations, will you marry me questions or many more. We had the chance to see one of the romantic dinners yesterday and it looked amazing, especially the food.
Of course we were at the Prater before but always during the summer time because that is just the time to go and enjoy rides and all the nice things the park has to offer. Yesterday we went just in time to see the Coca Cola truck and to be honest that was the only motivation we had to go because it was windy, cold and it looked like it was going to snow but we couldn´t miss the truck with the million lights on the outside.
When we arrived the program with the kids and Santa Clause had already started and the kids had the chance to ask Santa questions they wanted an answer to. Some of them were really funny and some of them I was curious to hear the answer too. I, myself, believed in Santa until I was 10 years old and even I know he is just a product to sell I still believe somewhere in my heart that he exists somewhere.
There was a huge crowed, mostly families with kids but it was still wonderful to see and in the background we could already see the truck. We made our way close to the truck and took some pictures and decided to drink one “Glühwein” – a red wine with some seasonings. This one was really strong, stronger than usual because we needed to drive home we didn´t wanted to risk anything and did spend some time their.
The Christmas market looked really good from down their, we thought maybe it looks good from the top too and got in line for the ferries wheel. Lucky us the wagons are closed in and we didn´t need to freeze up in the air. The few was amazing but sadly the Coca Cola truck left before we were all the way on the top. About 15 min later the 9,50 € ride was over. On the ground we realized how cold it had gotten in the last half hour and walked back to the car because we were freezing. That was our trip to the Prater and the Coca Cola truck. Over all I have to admit it is way more fun in the summer time than the winter time because you can use all the rides and see everything before it gets dark.
